Furry Family Friend
Posted by: | CommentsWell, I broke down and did it.
I always said that we wouldn’t have a dog. I don’t want to clean up poop. I’m done with that…my kids are out of diapers. Chloe has asked for a dog for as long as she could talk. Becca has always been skiddish around dogs, though. There are a few dogs that she’s become used to, but she’s always a little on edge. Over the past six months or so (I believe it’s since the fish died), Becca has been asking for a dog, too.
Then a series of events came into play. My sister in law got a new dog (a Pomeranian (sp?) puppy, six months old). That got the conversation started. A couple of weeks ago, we went to the pet store. I had a little conversation with the girl who was working there about good dogs for kids, and dogs that don’t shed all that much. I held a Schnoodle (a Schnauzer and a Poodle mix). He was adorable, and the seed was planted.
I started looking on the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society website, and Animal Friends. They had plenty of dogs, but they were all either older than 2 years, or they were Pit Bull Terrier mixes. I mean, I’d say at least 85% of the dogs were Pit Bull Terriers! I definitely didn’t want a Pitt Bull, and I thought I wanted a small dog.
I was still on the fence, though. Every once in a while I would do a little search online for breeders. Then I found a breeder that lived close by, and she breeds Peke a Poos. Now, I’m not anywhere near an expert dog person, and I know that there’s all kinds of debate about breeds and mixing breeds, blah, blah, blah. I just wanted a small dog that would be good with the kids, not fru-fru, and not a big shedder.
Off we went on Friday night to check out the dogs. There were three males left from the litter. They were three months old. Two of the dogs were very excited to see some people, jumping around and licking. The third dog looked over at us from behind a chair and gave us this look that said “What’s up?”
Yeah, that’s the dog that we got. We sat in the room with just that dog (now named Rex) and checked him out. Becca was still a little nervous, but actually gave him some love and pets. He came home with us, and I’m sure he’ll add to the stories. (I’ve already cleaned up 2 piles of poop, 1 wet accident and the results of his car sickness). But he’s super cute and really, really, really good with the kids. So, anyway, I’d like to introduce you to Rex:
Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming
Posted by: | CommentsWell, I’m getting back into the swing of things. We’re on our fourth day of school, and we’re all adjusting. Although I love the lazy mornings in the summer, it is nice to get back to a regular schedule. There’s a dinner time. There’s a homework time. There’s a bed time.
I can actually keep my house a little cleaner (no offense, Becca). I can get things done (like writing this right now). This schedule is giving me the chance to try to be a little more organized, a little more productive. Now, as I said on facebook today, I’m trying to be super mom, super organized and super productive. I’m not quite into the super hero status yet. There are times (like today) that I forget to eat. Completely. Also, I’m so completely exhausted by the end of the day, that I’ve fallen asleep with Becca at 9:00 for the past two evenings.
Now that I’m closing in on both of my kids being in school, I’m wondering what exactly I want to be when I grow up. Start another business? Maybe. The work I do for the restaurant can be done in a couple of hours a day. Or, maybe I just need to hit the lottery. Then I’ll just sit around and be artsy. I did hit for a hundred bucks today on a scratch off ticket.
I was nice, and gave it to Tony to go towards some golf clubs.
Yup, that’s me….Super Wife.
Goodbye, Summer
Posted by: | CommentsSorry I didn’t write all weekend
We were sucking the last little bit out of summer. I had a grown up night out for my birthday on Friday that included a nice dinner with wine and a filet, gambling, grown up drinks, a designated driver and a babysitter at home. It was nice to feel like “Heather” instead of “mom” for a little bit.
So, Becca starts first grade today. No problems waking her up, either. She’s very excited. I hope that lasts for at least a few more years! Chloe doesn’t start preschool until after Labor Day, so she’s sleeping in…still enjoying her summer.
There’s part of me that’s sad for school to start. It was nice to be with the girls (most of the time), and I really enjoyed our lazy mornings. On the other hand, I’m ready to get back to our schedule. It will be nice to not search for something to do every day of our lives. There’s really the potential to spend a lot of money over the summer! So, happy first day of school to all (even if it’s NOT the first day of school for you). I hope you had a great summer. And I’m gearing up for my favorite holiday…Halloween!
PittGinny
Posted by: | CommentsJust another little note here…I used to love to read PittGirl’s blog, The Burgh Blog. Then she went away. She was writing anonomously, and stopped (in a nutshell) because she was about to be found out. Well, I’ve been following her on twitter and facebook (as PittGirl) and today she revealed her identity.
She’s gotten a new name for her blog. She’s writing for Pittsburgh magazine. And she’s a real person. And a mom.
Awesome.
I think that going ‘public’ has lifted an incredible weight from her shoulders. I mean, could you imagine that feeling of not wanting to get found out?
Anyway, kudos to PittGirl Ginny. Or as she’d like you to say, Your Majesty.
Worn Out By the Wicked
Posted by: | CommentsI’m going to talk about True Blood a bit. So, if you’ve never seen the show (or read the books), just move along…come back tomorrow for something else.
I know that I’ve discussed this before, but I have a serious attachment to the stories in the Sookie Stackhouse Series (the books). At some points in time, it makes it difficult to watch True Blood. I was very intrigued with the introduction of Maryann at the end of last season. And, for the most part, I have enjoyed the new and original story line that she is involved in. (Except for the fact that they’re in Sookie’s house. That is bothering me.) However, I’m about done with that story line. On Sunday night, I saw that there were only three episodes left, and it seemed that the two major story lines were about to mingle together. Could be interesting. I’m hoping that it happens in the next episode, because the whole “Maryann hunting after Sam” thing has started to bore me.
It was pretty cool when Sam turned into a fly. Original. Now, I went over to the Charlaine Harris website, and found a link to a little essay that she wrote for Borders. I never thought about the fact that the books are COMPLETELY through Sookie’s eyes, and how logistically difficult that would be for a television show.
As she says, I’m trying to think of the tv series and the books as two totally different stories. But I’m still attached to Sookie. And I don’t like that bitch Maryann in her house.
OK, I feel better getting that off my chest. So? Only three more episodes? That will take me into September, then there’s a new book coming out in October. (It’s called A Touch of Dead, and I believe it’s a collection of the short stories that she has written). I’m going to pre-order it through Amazon Kindle, so it goes right to my fancy schmancy new iPhone. It’s only ten bucks if I do it that way (and, no shipping!). It will probably be the first REAL book I read on my phone.
Yeah…I still love my phone
OK, back to normal mommy complaining and stories tomorrow!
